Retirement money · a brokerage window
What a brokerage window can hold, by how much risk you can take.
A window lets you buy funds the plan did not pick. Three example mixes below, built only from certified halal funds, with each fund's own three-year record next to it. Pick the row that matches how you would feel in a bad year, not how you feel today.
First, the honest question
Every mix here lost money in some stretch of the last three years. The only question that matters is how much you can watch disappear without selling at the bottom. The worst three-year drop is printed next to every fund so the number is in front of you before the mix is.
Three example mixes, with this week's picks inside them
Each mix has three parts and never more than four lines. A core built on the halal S&P 500 fund. One fund from this week, the highest-ranked of those passing our chart checks, which changes with the week. And a share for the stocks our model rates Buy now, which sits in SPUS until the model says go. Same rule, same names, as the stocks page and This Week.

Examples, the same for every reader. SPUS is the core. SPSK, the sukuk fund, appears only in Steady, as the halal stand-in for a bond sleeve. SPTE adds technology where growth is the point. Most brokerage windows can hold individual stocks; if yours cannot, fold the stock share into the fund share.
| Fund | Yield | Cost | Worst 3y drop | 3y return |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SPUS S&P 500 companies that pass the screen | 0.4% | 0.45% | -21% | +92% |
| SPTE US technology that passes the screen | 0.1% | 0.55% | — | under 3 years |
| SPSK Sukuk, the halal fixed-income piece | 5.0% | 0.50% | -3% | +12% |
Three years of weekly closes with distributions reinvested, to October 16, 2026. Each fund carries an issuer Shariah certificate; the issuer and date are on the retirement page.
How to run it
Set the payroll contribution to land in the window's cash account, then buy on a schedule, monthly or each payday, in the same proportions. Rebalance once a year, on a date you will remember, back to the row you chose. Do not rebalance on news.
Some windows charge a yearly fee or a per-trade commission. Check the fee schedule before the first buy; a fee that is nothing on a large balance is a tax on a small one.
If you also have an IRA
The same mixes work there, and an IRA can hold individual stocks too. Read next: An IRA: the same mixes, rollovers and the tax point.
Education, not personal advice. The example mixes are the same for every reader and describe nobody's situation. Every number carries its date.
